Moore House American Antiques was founded in December of 1989. The shop is owned and operated by Bryan E. Riddle, a direct descendant of James Moore, Governor of Carolina in the year 1700. The shop is located at 105 Broad Street in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina and is situated at the intersection of Broad and King streets. The shop boasts the finest selection of 18th and early 19th century American furniture, Chinese export porcelains and complementing period accessories in Charleston.
The main focus of our collection at Moore House American Antiques is authentic American furniture dating from 1700 – 1820. We maintain the largest selection of rare Charleston made furniture, circa 1740-1825, in the country. Our inventory is not just limited to Charleston furniture, as most of our inventory hails from the large urban centers of Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. We often have on hand several pieces from Virginia, as well as the Coastal and Piedmont areas of North Carolina, and occasionally pieces from the Deep South of Louisiana.
Every piece of furniture in our stock is offered with a simple guarantee; and that is, to be exactly as represented or your money back. We make every effort to offer pieces of above average quality and often pieces of Superior grade. Each piece is thoroughly researched and is offered with a written description including a full condition report of any restorations performed by our shop, as well as any restoration performed prior to our acquisition. Family provenance is an important contributor to the value of American furniture in today’s market and is included whenever possible. Many pieces in our collection are offered in estate-found condition with little or no restoration at all.
Late 18th and early 19th century Chinese export porcelain is also a main staple in the shop. We offer the largest selection of blue and white Canton in the Southern United States with approximately 200 pieces on hand at all times. We also carry other well-known patterns in 19th century Chinese export such as Mandarin, Rose Medallion, Fitzhugh, Nanking, various Armorials, etc.
We offer a buy-back or trade-up policy for our clients as well. Should you ever wish to upgrade your collection we offer to take back most any piece or pieces of furniture purchased from our shop as long as they are in the same condition as when originally sold, and apply the cost of that piece to any future sale. We have sold numerous pieces over the past eighteen years that we would love to have the opportunity to handle again.
